The exterior finishes we recommend are non-film forming in their make-up. There is no shiny glaze coating, so the wood is left looking very natural. This is very important in the maintenance process. When the time comes to refinish, all that is needed to be done is to clean the dirt off and reapply more of the oil finish to the wood. Since there is not a coated glaze over the wood, the new finish will soak right into the wood, providing the wood with the oil it needs to be preserved and prevented from being damaged by the sun and water, which occurs with film forming finishes. Notice the natural look of the wood in the picture and how the grain of the wood is highlighted.
